A Marion County man is facing six felonies after being allegedly attacking a relative with a knife and hatchet and then fighting with jail personnel following his arrest.
Fouty-four-year-old Christopher Michael Blair faces charges of aggravated assault on a family/household member, first-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree criminal mischief, breaking or entering and two counts of aggravated assault on a jail employee. All six charges are Class D felonies. Blair has also been charged with two Class A misdemeanors, theft of property and interference with emergency communications.
According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, Marion County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on Marion County 3015 shortly before 4 Saturday afternoon to respond to a reported physical altercation. While en route, deputies were advised the suspect was in possession of a hatchet and a knife.
Once authorities arrived on scene, they found a man sitting in a red pickup truck. Another man, later identified as Blair, emerged from behind a blue mini van with his hands in the air.
The man in the pickup told authorities that a woman had twice came to his residence on MC 3046 saying that Blair was going to kill her, the affidavit states. The man and the woman had traveled to the property on MC 3015 to talk to Blair, who lived in a mini van on the property.
When the man went to speak to Blair, he reportedly emerged from the mini van in an agitated state and tried to attack the man with both a hatchet and a knife. The man retreated to his pickup, with Blair allegedly striking the vehicle on its cab and driver’s door with the hatchet before breaking out the driver’s side window and taking the man’s cell phone while he was talking to 911.
Blair then allegedly held the knife to the man’s neck and threatened to kill him. Blair then allegedly smashed the truck’s passenger-side window, entered the vehicle and destroyed the man’s dash camera, which had been recording the altercation.
While speaking with Blair, deputies observed him to be visibly upset and shaking controllably, the affidavit notes. Blair also reportedly told deputies that he was suicidal.
Once Blair was taken to the Marion County Law Enforcement Center, Blair allegedly struck a detention officer in the face and had to be wrestled to the floor restrained with handcuffs. While being escorted to a cell for suicide watch, Blair allegedly headbutted another jailer in the mouth/lip area.
Blair is being held in the Marion County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
