SCAM Alert for E-Mails Claiming to Be from Law Enforcement

Press Release from Branson Police Department

A sophisticated group of cyber criminals are sending emails claiming to have proof of traffic violations to lure victims into downloading harmful malware.
No law enforcement agency will contact the public by phone or email about a traffic violation or a warrant for arrest. Also, no legitimate agency will ask for payment over the phone or via email, ask you to click on a link or pay by gift card
If you are contacted by someone claiming to be affiliated with a law enforcement or government agency by phone and suspect a scam, we encourage you to hang up the phone, search for the phone number for that particular agency and call them yourself to verify
