The Walton Family Foundation commissions a report by TNTP, a non-profit organization formerly known as The New Teacher Project, detailing their findings on the teacher shortage in Arkansas. The 20-page report, titled “Missing Out”, was released last week.
According to their website, their “mission is to end the injustice of educational inequality by providing excellent teachers to the students who need them most and by advancing policies and practices that ensure effective teaching in every classroom.”
In Arkansas, four percent of public-school teachers are uncertified, while an additional three percent are teaching out of field. The number of uncertified teachers is much higher in other districts.
The number is at 56 percent in the Helena-West Helena School District; in the Forrest City School District it is at 52 percent.
