by: Scott McCaulley

Over the last couple of days, several teams have been trying to get to the next level or set themselves up for State Play:

-Saturday, the Blue Eye Lady Bulldogs punched a ticket to their second straight Class 2 Final Four appearance as they pull away in the second half for a 71-55 win at Richland in the State Quarterfinal. The Lady Bulldogs had four players score in double figures as they move on to play Ellington in the State Semi-final Thursday afternoon at JQH Arena in Springfield.

-Friday, Hollister’s bid for their first state tournament berth since 1999 fell short as they lost to Ava in the Class 4 District Finals in Mountain Grove 63-56. This completed a sweep by Ava over Lakes Area Teams in the Finals as the Lady Bears knocked off Forsyth in the District Final on Thursday. Also Friday, East Newton claimed the other area Class 4 District Title as they downed Mount Vernon 66-58. East Newton and Ava will play in the Sectional Contest on Tuesday.

–  A tough two day stretch for the Harrison Lady Goblins in the 4A Regional Tournament as they lose second half leads in both games, losing Friday to Pea Ridge 57-54 then losing a 13 point second half lead in the third place game to see Farmington hit a shot at the buzzer to win 53-51. Harrison will be the 4A North Fourth Seed entering State Tournament play next Tuesday at Morrilton. Morrilton’s Girls Team wins the Regional Title outlasting Pea Ridge in the championship game while on the boy’s side, Dardanelle holds off Berryville in the third place game 50-47 while Morrilton takes Farmington in the title game 52-47.

-Bergman sweeps the title games of the 3A Regional on their home court with the Panthers defeating Cedarville 73-40 while the Lady Panthers ran by Valley Springs 52-32.

-New School and Kingston claim the 1A Regional Championships at Lead Hill with the Cougars defeating County Line 40-31 in the boy’s title game while the Yellow Jackets held off Western Grove for the girls title 45-43. Those four teams along with both the Lead Hill Boys and Girls, the Jasper Girls, and Western Grove Boys will move on to the 1A State Tournament next week.
