Highway Projects Scheduled for Newton, Searcy Counties

The Arkansas State Highway Commission has approved bids for improvements to roadways in Newton and Searcy counties, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) officials.

In Newton County, the project will resurface 13.4 miles of Arkansas Highway 7 between the Pope County Line and Arkansas Highway 16. Blackstone Construction, LLC, of Russellville was awarded the contract at just over $3 million.

In Searcy County, the project will resurface 6/10 of a mile of various streets in the city of St. Joe, to include: Tennyson (Searcy Hwy 217), Church (Searcy Hwy 405) and Main (Searcy Hwy 404). Marion County Paving, LLC, of Summit was awarded the contract at $142,284.

Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks on both projects, weather permitting. Completion is expected in mid 2021 for both projects.
