Active Weather Saturday Evening Keeps NWS Busy

by: Scott McCaulley

A strong cold front along with increased turbulence in the atmosphere led to a stormy night in the Ozarks Saturday evening.

National Weather Service Forecasters in Springfield tell Ozarks First that they issued nine Tornado Warnings for their forecast area during the evening and several other Severe Thunderstorm Warnings.

One of those Tornado Warnings was issued for the Branson area after 8:00 as parts of Southern Taney and Stone Counties were under the warning. Branson Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Ted Martin said during on-air Storm Coverage that there were several storms that they were tracking during the evening.

The storm in Arkansas also prompted the NWS in Tulsa to issue a Tornado Warning for Northern Carroll County including the Berryville and Eureka Springs areas.

As for the Lakes Region, only two damage reports were submitted to the NWS, both from Emergency Management in Stone County reporting trees down around Baxter Marina near Lampe and a report of power lines down near Joe Bald Road in Kimberling City.

Several reports from the region indicated wind gusts of 60-70 mph but no reports of tornado touchdowns.
