Flag Retirement Ceremony

Area scouts from Branson’s Troop 2001 plan a flag retirement ceremony as part of Veteran’s Week this week.  Veterans and the public are invited to the ceremony at 7 p.m. Monday, November 9 at the Veterans War Museum on West Highway 76.    The scouts have collected hundreds of worn flags that are no longer fit to be flown.  The ceremony will provide for the proper retirement of the flags with respect and honor.

Federal code states that when a flag is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

Scoutmaster Eric Houtchens says the scouts of Troup 2001 are honored to have this opportunity.  They have prepared a proper ceremony for this solemn occasion and encourage veterans and area residents to attend.
