Harrison Does Not Pass “Freedom Resolution”

by: Scott McCaulley

The Harrison City Council on a 5-3 vote decides not to support a “Freedom Resolution”

The Resolution, proposed by Council Member Chris Head and based on one discussed in Jonesboro, claims that State Government is overreaching in some of their COVID-19 Directives.

Discussion was heard by several people including Jonesboro Council Member Bobby Long who authored the original Resolution.  State Senator Scott Flippo also joined the meeting and stated that Legislation will be brought up in the 2021 General Assembly to look at the powers given to the Governor in declaring a State of Emergency. A Lawsuit has also been filed disputing Governor Asa Hutchinson’s assertion that a State of Emergency can be extended for an infinite amount of time.

In the end, only Head along with Heath Kirkpatrick and Wayne Cone voted for the Resolution though the Council overall agreed that this situation should be looked at through the Legislative Process.
