H.S. Football: Branson, Forsyth Post Big Home Wins, Other Results

by: Scott McCaulley

Home was good to Branson and Forsyth in High School Football action Friday night while other Lakes Area Teams had tough home losses.

Branson celebrated Homecoming with a 48-14 win over Willard. The visiting Tigers, already a young club replacing 13 starters from last season, had nine players that were not available for the game due to COVID-19 Guidelines and the Pirates were able to take advantage as the Defense shutdown Willard most of the night and the Offense got the running game cranked up and pulled away. The Pirates got rushing touchdowns from Christian Beurman and David Hadaller plus and interception return for a score by Tristian Pierce to get a 20-0 lead and though Willard got on the board in the second half, the Pirates answered to secure their third win of the season.

Meanwhile Forsyth got into a shootout with Strafford but pulled away for a 48-34 win. The Panthers jumped out to a 28-12 halftime lead only to see Strafford tie the game twice in the second half. After the game was tied at 34 at the end of three, the Panthers scored the final 14 points of the game to raise their record to 4-3 for the season.

The night was tougher for Hollister and Reeds Spring as the Tigers rally but fall short on their Homecoming Night losing to Rogersville 23-20 while the Wolves, having to play a replacement opponent due to COVID-19, loses to Kearney from the Kansas City area 40-14 spoiling Homecoming Night for the Wolves.

In Arkansas, the Harrison Goblins hold on to win at Greenbrier 33-29. The Goblins intercept a pass in the game’s final moments to hold on to the win after retaking the lead with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Greenbrier got the ball down field before throwing the interception at the 9 yard line to end the threat. Cole Keylon rushed for 155 yards and scored two touchdowns and also threw for 230 yards and a touchdown  as the Goblins go to 5-1 for the season.
