A man from Crane dies in a traffic crash on I-44 in Lawrence County early Sunday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred around 2:15 am when a car driven by 42-year-old Jeffery Holden was westbound on the Exit Ramp at Halltown when it traveled off the roadway, struck an embankment then went airborne before overturning, striking a tree, and coming to a rest on its top.

Holden, who was not wearing a seat belt according to the accident report, was pronounced dead at the scene while a passenger in his vehicle, 32-year-old Kristen Hoss of Steelville, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for treatment.

This is the 10th fatality this month, and 83rd this year in traffic accidents worked by Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
