At Thursday’s Branson Board of Alderman Study Session, a presentation was made by Branson Public Works Director Keith Francis about the Recycle Center on Compton Drive.
The Recycle Center has been operated by the city since 1992 at no charge to any person or business wanting to drop off materials. The center cost the City approximately $240,000 to run in 2019. Francis said in his presentation that the market for recyclable materials has dropped over that last few years.
While City Staff recommended closing the Recycle Center, several other alternatives were discussed by alderman to keep the Recycling Program going including various ways of charging people for using the center or letting a private entity take it over.
Mayor Edd Akers as well as several alderman said that several citizens have come to them hoping the recycle program can continue in some form or fashion. Mayor Akers said the discussion will continue at future meetings.
