Springfield Resident Dies, Another Injured in Separate Accidents Sunday Morning

Two accidents involving Springfield residents take place in the Lakes Region Sunday morning.

The 34th Fatality Accident in Troop D of the Missouri Highway Patrol occurred as a one vehicle crash at Saddlebrook claimed a life.

The Highway Patrol Accident report indicates the crash occurred around 9:40 when a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Matei Pop failed to negotiate a curve traveling northbound on Highway 65, traveling through the median across the southbound lane a struck a rock bluff.

Pop, who was not wearing a seat belt according to the accident report, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other accident occurred around 11:40 Sunday morning on Highway 76 east of Branson when a pick-up truck driven by Rusty Williams ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree. A passenger in the vehicle, 26-year-old Kerrah Williams, was ejected from the pick-up when she grabbed the door handle during the accident causing the door to open.

Both people in the vehicle were not wearing seat belts according to the accident report. Kerrah Williams sustained serious injuries and was taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for treatment.
