Senior Centers Closing Temporarily Due to CoronaVirus

by: Scott McCaulley

Senior Age, the organization that operates Senior Centers around the region, issues a state Friday saying they will be closing the facilities and administrative offices for the remainder of the month beginning on Monday.

In the release, the agency says the decision is made out of respect for public concerns and protection of both the seniors and the centers’ staffs.

In the Lakes Region, those centers include the Branson Senior Center and the Branson-Hollister Senior Center as well as the Senior Friendship Site in Forsyth, the Kimberling Area Senior Center in Kimberling City and the Cassville Senior Center.

Seniors receiving home delivered meals can still receive those meals based on the availability of volunteers willing to deliver.

The complete Press Release plus all of the Area Senior Centers involved is below:

In keeping with minute by minute guidance, SeniorAge has made the decision to close our facilities to the public during normal business hours, beginning Monday through the end of March.  We are not acting out of panic or fear, but out of respect for public concerns and for the utmost protection of both our staff and seniors.

Seniors receiving home delivered meals can still receive those meals with willing volunteer to deliver.  Safety precautions are in place.  Starting Monday, those who generally dine at the center can use our drive-thru service to receive a meal.  For more specifics, seniors are encouraged to call their local senior center for assistance.

All wellness programs, presentations, and tax counseling clinics are also on hold.

Thank you.  For more information, please call your local senior center, SeniorAge at 417-862-0762, or my cell 838-8940
