With the increasing major events in all areas being re-scheduled, cancelled outright, or postponed, here is an update on major sporting events involving area teams.
The NAIA has cancelled all Winter Championships including the Division Two Basketball Championships that had begun on Wednesday. The College of the Ozarks Men had already been eliminated from the tournament after their loss to Morningside on Wednesday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota but the C of O Women, who were scheduled to open tournament play today in Sioux City, Iowa today will not play their game with no more games to be played.
The National Junior College Division Two Tournament in Port Huron, Michigan as well as other upcoming tournaments have been postponed until April 20. The North Arkansas College Lady Pioneers are one of the teams set to participate in the D-2 Championships. The on-going Division Three Tournaments are scheduled to wrap-up on Friday.
The Missouri State High School Basketball Championships for Class 1, 2, and 3 Schools in Springfield are still going on as scheduled but the Missouri State High School Activities Association in consultation with Missouri State University and the Greene County Health Department have limited the access to 150 fans per school. MSHSAA has also cancelled the Third Place Games in all classifications. Blue Eye is scheduled to play Tipton in the Girls Class 2 Semi-finals Friday afternoon at 4:30.
The Arkansas High School Association as of now are still scheduled to play all of their State Championship Games in Hot Springs, including Valley Springs against Mountain View in the 3A Girls Title Game on Friday. AHSAA officials issued a statement earlier today saying that officials will do extra cleaning between sessions to help ensure the safety of all participants and fans.
