For Forsyth and Hollister, both favored in the seeds at the Class 3 District Basketball Tournament at Starfford, took different paths to opening round wins on Monday.
The Lady Panthers overcame their own nerves and a barrage of 3 points goals by Conway to earn a 75-45 win. The back forth game was tied at halftime before Forsyth exploded in the second half and outscored the Lady Bears 45-15 to cruise to the win. Scarlett Texeira scored 24 points to lead the Lady Panthers.
Meanwhile for the Lady Tigers, who were seeded ahead of Springfield Catholic despite having lost to the Lady Irish during the season, they led a low scoring game most of the way only to see Catholic grab a three point lead in the game’s final 90 seconds. However, Hollister finished the game on a 5-1 run spurred by a steal and a lay-up by Mady Pyatt then a 3 point shot in the final 15 seconds by Aubrey Henson saved the day for Hollister, who will play Forsyth in the District semi-finals Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the seeds held up at the Class 2 District Boys Tournament which included a 47-21 win for Blue Eye over Spokane and a 67-33 win for Crane over School of the Ozarks.
