A fire late Thursday night has heavily damaged the Snapp-Bearden Funeral home east of Branson on Highway 76.
Multiple on-line sources indicate the fire started sometime after 10:00. Western Taney County Firefighters were among those on the scene to fight the blaze.
The fire did most of the damage to the west end or the sanctuary side of the building.
Assistant Chief James Lannan says witnesses report hearing something unusual before the fire.
“Initial reports were a loud boom and an active fire showing,” Lannan said. “Units arrived within about six minutes of dispatch, and found heavy fire conditions on one side of the building. We mounted an offensive attack, but unfortunately the fire had already extended to the attic.”
No injuries have been reported in the fire. The State Fire Marshall will investigate the cause of the fire.
Highway 76 was closed in that area late last night and early this morning while firefighters battled the blaze. Highway 76 is open to traffic this morning.
