College of the Ozarks will display the artistic work of John P. Gill, professor of ceramic art at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, from now until Feb. 12, in the Boger Art Gallery. Located inside the Jones Learning Center, the Boger Art Gallery is open to the public Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition to sharing his unique art forms, Gill will provide a lecture in the Gittinger Music Building Recital Hall on Friday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m., followed by a reception. The lecture and reception are open to the public.

Gill is an innovator in the material of modern clay and has won numerous awards for his teaching and his work. His saying, “all colors go together, some just have to work harder,” is revealed in his colorful pieces. One piece may incorporate 20 to 30 different patterns, colors, and lines.

The cubist ceramic artwork of Gill has been featured internationally in places such as London, Korea, and Taiwan. Gill has been named a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and is a 2014 inductee into the American Craft Council College of Fellows.

A native of Seattle, Washington, Gill earned his M.F.A. from the New York State College of Ceramics, Alfred University, and he earned his B.F.A. from the Kansas City Art Institute. Although Gill has worked all over the United States, he has been working at Alfred University since 1984. Michael Ashley, assistant professor of art and graduate of College of the Ozarks, taught with Gill from 2011-2012 at Alfred University.
