The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is awaiting an autopsy report following the discovery earlier this week of the body of a 76-year-old male.

Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler says the body of Joe Brown was found by relatives about 25-30 yards from an unoccupied mobile home and reported to his office Monday.

Sheriff Wheeler says while no weapon was found near the body and there were no signs of a homicide, the scene “didn’t seem right.”

He says it is unknown when the death occurred.

Wheeler says the body was sent to the Arkansas Crime Lab for an autopsy. He says the autopsy has been completed, but his office has not received a report of the findings.
