Press Release

College of the Ozarks will host the 2019 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division I and Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the College campus in Point Lookout, Missouri.

This is the second year the College will host the event, which is anticipated to bring approximately 300 student-athletes from across the country to the Branson-Tri-Lakes area.

The women will run a 5-kilometer race at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the men with an 8-kilometer race at 11 a.m. The awards ceremony crowning the national champions will take place on the course shortly thereafter. Admission to the event is $5 per vehicle.

The Bobcat Cross Country Course is located along the banks of Lake Taneycomo and through the fields of the College of the Ozarks campus. The unique course consists of two one-mile loops; one loop features grassy, rolling hills, while the second loop is a more traditional, flat course. Runners can expect to encounter some challenges as they navigate the hills, inclines, and downhill terrain, but they will also be greeted with glimpses of beautiful Lake Taneycomo through portions of the flatlands. Spectators will be able to easily view runners at each mile marker, as well as additional convenient locations, including wood-chip pathways to navigate shortcuts through the wooded areas.

“We are excited to host this national championship event,” said Chris Larsen, dean of sports, recreation, and events at the College. “The NCCAA is a quality organization whose values align closely with those of the College. Both the NCCAA and the College seek to be an example of Christ-like character through our words and actions both on and off the course, court, or field of play. We look forward to welcoming the teams and their fans from across the country and providing them with genuine Ozarks hospitality.”

Headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina, the NCCAA strives to promote the gospel of Jesus Christ through its 24 National Championships and one National Invitational. For more information on the NCCAA, contact the NCCAA National Office at (864) 250-1199 or visit www.thenccaa.org.
