More details were released Wednesday in connection with a shooting incident Saturday in Boone County. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office learned of the incident when the wife of 26-year-old William Eric Oleary advised her husband had been shot and she was taking him to the North Arkansas Regional Medical Center emergency room. The shooting incident occurred at a residence along Loyd Road.

Boone County Sheriff Mike Moore says according to witness statements, Oleary became involved in a physical altercation with Austin Stevens in the back yard of the residence. An age for Austin Stevens was not provided.

Sheriff Moore says Stevens’ father, 47-year-old Danny Stevens, intervened in the altercation. Allegations made were that Oleary then attacked Danny Stevens.

Danny Stevens, who has a concealed handgun permit, reported that during the struggle he lost his weapon. Moore says one of the statements obtained indicates that during the struggle, Danny Stevens secured the gun, while Oleary continued to assault him, and a single shot was fired.

Oleary was struck in the lower abdomen. At the time of Moore’s statement on Wednesday, Oleary was reported in stable condition.

Moore says the investigation into the matter, consisting of the evidence collected and witness statements, will be submitted to the prosecuting attorney for review to determine if the shooting was justified or criminal charges will be filed.
