Hollister Early Childhood Center teachers spent Monday afternoon visiting students and their families at home and personally inviting them to the Hollister School District’s Open House and Night of the Tiger.
This is the fourth year that kindergarten and first grade students of the Hollister School District have had the opportunity to meet their teacher prior to the night of open house.
Hollister ECC Principal Mark Waugh says, “Students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. This is us letting them know how much we care from day one. It is a great opportunity for us to meet students on familiar and comfortable ground for them. It helps relieve some of their anxiety as they
come to our open house”.
Sara Nevatt, parent of two Hollister ECC students explains how much these home visits mean to her children. “ We LOVE IT! It makes my littles so proud and more comfortable when they see their teachers at school!”
The Hollister School District theme for the year, “Better Together”, recognizes that student success comes from everyone working together. Waugh states, “when a student is successful, it is not just because of what the school has done. It is because of what the student, their family and the school has accomplished together”. He expresses that these home visits are a great way to help build that relationship between school and home.
