One of the topics discussed at the Branson Board of Alderman Meeting Tuesday was an update on the impact of Sports Tourism in the Branson Lakes Region.
Terra Alphonso with the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce & CVB presented the numbers to alderman. which indicate that around the country, Sports Tourism is the continuing to rise and is believed to be the fastest growing segment in the travel industry.
Branson is seeing a high amount of those events and visitors which includes Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Fishing, Archery, and Gymnastics Events among other activities. Alfonso points out however that even with events being held at both the Ballparks of America Complex and the Branson Convention Center as well as the area lakes for Fishing, and expansion of the Branson Rec Plex Facility is needed to continue to grow the Sports Tourism Market in the region.
The Chamber’s Sports Marketing Task Force will be making a presentation to the city later this month with suggestions on how to finance expansion to accommodate the increase demand for facilities.
