Kansas Teen Dies in Traffic Accident in Stone County

A teenager traveling through the Lakes Region with his family dies in a two vehicle crash in Stone County Wednesday Morning.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reports that a vehicle driven by Carlos Garate, 41, of Emporia, Kansas slowed to make a left turn on Highway 76 two miles west of Branson when the vehicle was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Gideon Dunn, 37, of Branson.

One of the passengers in the Garate vehicle, 13-year-old Ace Garate, sustained critical injuries and was taken to Cox Hospital in Branson were he was later pronounced dead. According to the accident report, Ace Garate was not wearing a safety device while the other four people in the vehicle were and escaped with just minor injuries.

As per state law, the drivers of both vehicles were tested for alcohol. This is the 34th fatality for Troop D of the Missouri Highway Patrol this year.
