Lakes Area Baseball Teams Knock Off Top Seeds in District Tournaments

by: Scott McCaulley

While both teams have had some recent success, both the Forsyth Panthers and Hollister Tigers faced situations as underdogs taking on top seeds at their respective District Baseball Tournaments. Both though were able to pull off the upsets and put themselves in championships games today.

Forsyth had the early start in the Class 3 District Semi-finals against Marionville and got off to an early start, putting nine on the board in the first inning after the lead off hitter reached on an error. Though the Comets did get four runs in the second to close the gap, the Panthers were able to add four runs during the rest of the game and hold on for the 13-6 win.

Meanwhile, Hollister’s task may have even been more of an uphill battle even though they are hosting the Class 4 District. The Tigers, facing top seed and two time defending State Champion Aurora, overcame an early deficit and moved on with a 5-1 win. The Tigers took the lead in the fourth and held the Houn Dawgs from there to move on.

The two championship games are schedule for today with Forsyth playing host Clever at 5:00 and Hollister playing Catholic at home at 6:00. Coverage of the Forsyth game can be heard on 981 FM and AM 1220 KCAX with the Hollister game to be heard starting at 6:00 on perryphillipssports.com with coverage joined in progress on KCAX after the Class 3 Final.
