A twelve inch water main on the north side of Harrison Arkansas broke on Thursday afternoon leaving many with low water pressure or no water at all for a matter of hours.
As of 8:00 PM Thursday evening the repair was 90% complete and most water had been restored to Harrison residents. A small number of buildings around the intersection of HWY 43 and HWY 65 were expected to remain without water for an additional 2-6 hours. Included in these affected buildings were the Holiday Inn Express and the Hampton Inn on HWY 43 which currently house many of the visiting high school sports teams participating in the 3A state championships.
As of Thursday evening Mayor Jerry Jackson said all those who have their water restored will not be issued a boil order. Those without water though Thursday night could see a boil order depending on the length of the outage.
Public works director Wade Phillips said in his ten years on the job this is only the second time a water main break of this size has occurred.
