Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield showcases our area’s history, but the visitor center will be getting a fresh look.
The renovation will add about 1,900 square feet of exhibit space.
That will double the area the Visitor Center has to display artifacts from the Civil War Battle at Wilson’s Creek.
Michael Ussery is the president of the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation. He told us this renovation means you’ll be able to get a better sense of the impact the battle had on Missouri.
“This is our shared history and being able to come in here and see, you know, the battle, the battlefield artifacts and get a sense of what happened here and the sacrifice and its importance,” Ussery said.
Ussery told us he hopes construction will begin this fall.
This is how the money breaks down:
The whole renovation project will cost $4.5 million.
Most of that money is coming from the National Park Service.
The foundation is hoping to raise $300,000.
Bass Pro kicked off that effort today with a donation of $25,000.
