The Harrison City Council met on Wednesday in special session to authorize Mayor Jerry Jackson to sign settlement documents in a 2015 lawsuit filed against the Harrison Housing Authority by Gerrie Parker and Amy Villines.
According to the Harrison Daily Times,
“In 2015, former HHA employees Gerrie Parker and Amy Villines filed suit against the HHA and the city of Harrison alleging they were fired as retaliation for reporting misuse of money in the agency.”
A trial had been set for March 12th, but Harrison City Attorney Grant Ragland advised the council that letting the matter go to trial would most likely result in more expense than the proposed settlement.
The amount of the settlement totals to $60,000. Half of the amount will be paid by the Arkansas Municipal League, The HHA and the City of Harrison have agreed to pay $15,000 each. $30,000 will be paid to Gerrie Parker and $30,000 will be paid to the estate of Amy Villines. This settlement will allow the matter to be closed without any party admitting liability.
The motion to allow Mayor Jackson to proceed with the settlement passed unanimously with no discussion from the council members.
