Hollister’s first Municipal Election of 2019 will ask voters to approve a new tax use bill.

The proposed ballot initiative would impose a local use tax at the same rate as the total local sales tax rate, currently 2 percent.

Hollister city leaders said, if passed, the city would receive a use tax from out-of-state vendor sales purchased by Hollister city residents, which has not been collected, losing the city hundreds of thousands of dollars.
