The Bergman School district has decided to close school for Thursday and Friday (Jan. 31 – Feb. 1) due to illness.

Superintendent Joe Couch said that on Tuesday (Jan. 29) the total number of absent students K-12 totaled 161 along with 15 absent staff members. As of 1:00 PM on Wednesday (Jan. 30) there were 155 absent students along with eight staff members.

That is roughly 15% of the total student population absent. Most of the illness has been either influenza or stomach viruses. In addition to the absent students and staff Couch said they have several substitute teachers unavailable due to illness as well. Couch said “we think it’s best to give everyone a couple of days off to heal and recoup.”

School will resume normal session on Monday (Feb. 4).
