2019 could see armed guards at Missouri private colleges and universities.

If a new bill is passed in the state legislature, sponsored in collaboration with College of the Ozarks, it would allow private institutions to implement a campus police department. Public colleges and universities in Missouri already have a statute in place to allow campus police departments, and College of the Ozarks officials say the proposed new “Private College Campus Protection Act,” legislation would allow private institutions to do the same.

The bill received first reading on the opening day of the 2019 Legislative Session January 9.
