City of Branson Postpones Duck Boat Tragedy Memorial Consideration Again

by: Scott McCaulley

One of the items on the Branson Board of Alderman Agenda on Tuesday Night was to have a final reading on a Bill to enter into a “Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to a donation of a Lighthouse Memorial Monument…” to remember the victims of the Duke Boat Tragedy on Table Rock Lake last July. The bill, first considered in September, has now been postponed again.

The Board on a unanimous vote Tuesday night agreed to a motion to postpone consideration of this until a future date not to exceed January 28 of next year.

The proposal had been brought fourth by the Tri-Lakes Board of Realtors to install the Lighthouse Monument at Old School Park on Highway 76 at no cost to the city. It would be a nine foot monument with the names of the 17 people who lost their lives on the Duck Boat that went down in rough waters on Table Rock Lake on July 19.

No comment was made on the vote or statement on when the Bill would be brought back up for consideration.
