Monett High School has a good first Saturday of 2019 hosting and winning its own invitational wrestling meet featuring several of the top programs from the area. The Cubs won five championship matches in holding off Willard for the title.
Both Branson and Reeds Spring from the Lakes Area took part in the meet with both Varsity and Junior Varsity Teams entered. The Branson and Reeds Spring Varsity Teams finished 12th and 13th respectively in the 22 team field.
Christian Cartright was the highest Branson Medalist taking third in the 120 Weight Class with other top eight finishers including Collin Andrews (4th 170), Caden Lorenz (4th 145), Christian Berumen (5th 160), and Tyler Cartright (6th 106). JV Wrestler Alex Maldonado takes fourth place in the 152 Weight Class.
Eric Holt of Reeds Spring claimed the top honor for all of the Lakes Area Wrestlers as he finished second to Monett’s Elias Barrientos in the 138 Championship Match. Clayton Johonson finished third by defeating Branson’s Andrews at 170. Other Reeds Spring top eight finishers were Evan Wilson (7th 152) along with eighth place finishes for Tyler Nance (113), Chase Johnson (120), Shane Thompson (126), and Cayden Love (160).
