Amanda Rodriguez was feeling “pretty excited” when she came into the Missouri Lottery office in Springfield to claim a $500,000 top prize on the new holiday Scratchers game, “Money Tree.”
“My kids always enjoy a car wash, but (playing Scratchers) gives me something to do, too. I usually always get the holiday ones,” explained the Hollister resident. “So as I am going through the car wash, I am scratching it and I thought, ‘That can’t be right. Am I hallucinating or something?’”
Rodriguez was so excited that she didn’t even finish the car wash. She immediately went back into the store to have the ticket checked, and the clerk told her she needed to go to Springfield.
“I was headed down there, but you all were closed. I was like, ‘Oh, man. I have to wait until Monday,’” she laughed. “It didn’t feel real.”
She is looking forward to using the money toward a new house and car for her family.
“It’s a blessing. It really is. I just can’t believe this is happening,” she said.
Rodriguez purchased her winning ticket at 1st Stop, 220 Branson Hills Parkway, in Branson.
“Money Tree” is a $20 ticket that began on Sept. 24. It offers more than $7.5 million in remaining prizes, including another top prize of $500,000. An updated list of remaining Scratchers prizes can be found at MOLottery.com or by using the Missouri Lottery app.
All current holiday-themed Scratchers tickets will be eligible for the “Gourmet Getaway” giveaway, a second-chance promotion that offers players a chance to satisfy their cravings for food-filled journeys throughout the world with once-in-a-lifetime culinary trips.
The Missouri Lottery reminds players not to give Lottery tickets as gifts for children under 18 years old.
