College of the Ozarks had a successful day on Friday, as the women’s volleyball team advanced to the National Christian College Athletic Association DI Women’s Volleyball National Championship match.
Volleyball: Loss to SAGU-TX: 27-25, 23-25, 18-25, 21-25; Win over Southwestern Christian Univ-OK: 21-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-21
Lady Bobcat volleyball won their first two games of National Championship Pool Play on Thursday, but fell (3-1) in a tight matchup against Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Friday morning. Three teams in the pool tied with a 2-1 record, and each team defeated one another by 3-1 victories, making point differential the deciding factor for the pool winner. The Lady Bobcats came out atop the pool and played Friday evening in a semi-finals match against Southwestern Christian University (Okla.). CofO, after losing the first set, rebounded to record a 3-1 win and advance to the championship match.
For the day, the Lady Bobcats were led by Alex Spears and Rielly Dobbs. Spears, who posted two double doubles Thursday, repeated the feat on Friday. She tallied 16 kills and 21 digs against SAGU, along with 15 kills and 31 digs versus SCU. Dobbs dished up 36 assists and collected 2o digs in the SAGU match, adding 40 assists and 16 digs against SCU. Kayli Grant and Kaylan Smith took charge of defense at the net, as Grant posted 10 blocks and Smith added 7. Grant also put down 19 kills on the day.
The Lady Bobcats (33-6) will face the #1 seed of the tournament, Biola University from La Mirada, Calif. on Saturday at 1 PM in the Championship Match. The event will be held at College of the Ozarks.
