The College of the Ozarks Basketball teams take a pair of wins in Tennessee Friday:
Women’s Basketball: Win over Fisk University 102-39
C of O women’s basketball, who recently moved up two places in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll to #4, traveled to Nashville, Tenn. The Lady Cats faced A.I.I. opponent Fisk University on Friday evening and dominated with a 102-39 victory.
C of O jumped out to a 28-13 first quarter lead and never looked back. The Lady Cats stretched the lead to 51-22 at half on 67% shooting from the field and 60% shooting from three.
The lead grew in the second half as C of O outscored the Lady Bulldogs 27-10 in the third quarter. The C of O bench took over the entire fourth quarter, scoring 24 points and giving up just 7 points.
The Lady Bobcats had six players in double figures, led by Cass Johnson’s 17 points. Fellow senior Kelsie Cleeton had 14. Abby Oliver contributed 13, while Aleksei Smith had 12, Michelle Gabani scored a career high of 11, and Grace Steiger chipped in 10.
C of O shot 65% for the game, while Fisk managed just 28%. The Lady Cats were 9-16 from the three point line for 56%. C of O also out-rebounded the Lady Bulldogs 38-27, led by Cleeton with seven. Madisen Brethower dished out five assists to lead C of O, and Cleeton snagged three steals. C of O forced 18 turnovers and had 14 of their own.
C of O Lady Cats (9-1) continue their road stretch with a game at Welch College on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
Men’s Basketball: Win Over Fisk University 80-67
College of the Ozarks Bobcats also traveled to Tennessee for the weekend and defeated Fisk University by a score of 80-67.
The Bobcats opened up the game cold from the field . They shot 41% in the first half and committed 11 turnovers. The second half was a different story, however, as C of O shooters heated up, connecting on 8-of-12 three pointers, and committing only six turnovers.
Fisk played great defense, causing the Cats to rush their shots and force some turnovers. The Bobcats settled down in the second half and played much better on the court. C of O had five players in double figures, led by Ethan Davidson with 24 points.
The win improves the Bobcats record to 7-3 on the season. C of O will take on Welch College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
