The Lady Bobcats traveled to Bethany, Oklahoma on Thursday for the NCCAA Central Region Tournament at Southwestern Christian University.
Facing Southwestern Christian University and Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), the Lady Bobcats swept both games 3-0, achieving the title of NCCAA Division I Central Region Champions. Seniors Kayli Grant and Alex Spears led the team in points, earning 16 apiece. Spears completed the first game of the night with a double-double, racking up 14 kills and 21 digs. Haley Stallings continued to be a defensive asset with 17 digs in the first game. The Lady Bobcats finished the first game against Southwestern Christian University 25-23, 25-16, 25-22.
The second game of the night secured the Lady Bobcats’ winning title with a 3-0 win against SAGU. Sets one and two remained close matches, ending with scores of 25-22, but the Lady Cats were able to pull an 8 point lead for a 25-17 win in the third set. Spears dominated the offense with 11 kills and 1 ace, but was closely followed by Ryley Thixton and Grant who tallied 10 kills. Rielly Dobbs contributed with 37 assists for the night alongside Stallings’ 21 digs. The Lady Bobcats lead in hitting percentages over the Lady Lions in set two and three, postung a higher deficit in set three with a 0.462 hitting percentage compared to 0.128 for SAGU.
Next up for the Lady Bobcats is the NCCAA DI Women”s Volleyball National Championship tournament to be held at College of the Ozarks on Nov. 29 – Dec. 1.
