Three of the four Missouri Lakes Area High School Football Teams had close games Friday night that went down to the wire.

The Branson Pirates nearly upset Class 4 Top Ranked Webb City before the Cardinals held on for a 22-20 win at Pirates Stadium. After Branson got a field goal early in the second quarter to take a lead, the Cardinals scored on the ensuing kick-off, which started a string of 22 unanswered points.  The Pirates though didn’t back down as Gabe Sylvester hit Brady Blackwell with a 35 Yard Touchdown Pass just before half to pull the Pirates within 12. Another long pass set-up a Stephen Derks touchdown run in the third quarter and a 28 yard Justice Webber Field Goal in the fourth pulled Branson within two. After the Pirates stopped a Webb City drive mid fourth quarter, the Pirates drove down inside the Webb City 30 yard line but after getting pushed back, decided to punt and though they pinned Webb City deep in their own territory, the Cardinals picked up three first downs to run out the clock. Branson falls to 2-2 with the loss.

Meanwhile excitement was elsewhere tonight in region as Hollister celebrated Homecoming by outlasting McDonald County 35-28 . The game went back and forth all night long with the Mustangs getting a long touchdown from Oakley Roessler to tie the game late before the Tigers rallied as Layton Morgan hit Logan Armitage with a long touchdown pass in the final minute to even the Tigers record at 2-2.

Reeds Spring remained undefeated for the season as the Wolves hold off Mount Vernon on the road 27-26. The Wolves trailed at halftime before Seth Stamps returned the second half kick-off for a touchdown to put the Wolves back on top. The Wolves had to hold off a late Mountaineer rally as down by seven, they scored in the game’s final seconds and went for two and the win with the Wolves intercepting the two point conversion pass to hold on. Cody Hughes had a big night, rushing 24 times for 95 yards to help keep the Wolves undefeated.

The night was not as good for the Forsyth Panthers as undefeated Fair Grove rolled by them in Forsyth 67-0.

In Arkansas, the Berryville Bobcats went to 2-1 on the season as the rolled by Yellville-Summit 42-0 while the Green Forest Tigers had a close game of their own as they held on for their first win of the season 31-30 over West Fork.
