A couple from Kansas City came to visit the Branson area and thought it would be a good idea to purchase some lottery tickets before dinner.
Mary and William Armstrong were in Cape Fair visiting and headed out to dinner with family on May 11. William thought some Powerball and Mega Millions tickets would go great with his dinner that night and purchased $10 of each.
That following Monday though, his wife Mary noticed that one of the tickets they bought was a $1 million Mega Millions ticket.
“I waited until he got home from work and asked him if he had those tickets,” said Mary. “They were in his truck, so I asked him to go get them. He was kind of annoyed with me that he had to go back out to the truck.”
Once the couple had their tickets in hand, Mary checked the winning numbers which were 14, 38, 40, 53, 70 and the Mega Ball number was 22. And one by one, they matched every number but the Mega Ball number.
“We were jumping up and down, crying,” laughed Mary Armstrong. “We always joked about winning. We don’t need $500 million; just give us $1 million and we will be good!”
The Armstrongs plan to use their money wisely. They will use the money to fix up their home in Kansas City to sell and retire to their home in Branson.
“She’s not letting me go out and buy any new toys yet,” laughed William Armstrong.
The tickets were purchased at Flat Creek Resort.
