Monday marks the beginning of “Click it or Ticket” week in Missouri – a stepped up effort to enforce seatbelt laws and save lives. This year’s campaign will include a “Border to Border” event spearheaded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Border to Border will co-ordinate highly visible, seat belt enforcement and provide seat belt fact sheets for drivers at heavily traveled locations at state lines across the country.
The B2B kickoff in Missouri will include a four-hour enforcement crackdown from 4–8 p.m. on Monday, May 21. This year’s focus is on the nighttime hours, because stats show that’s when seat belt use is at its lowest. Nearly half (48%) of the passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in 2016 were unrestrained. That number jumps to 56 percent in night time crashes.
