Lava Lamp Suspected in Kimberling City Fire

Fire investigators suspect a lava lamp may have caused a fire that forced the evacuation of the Bradford Court Apartments, former known as Harbor House, in Kimberling City early Thursday morning.

The Southern Stone County Fire Protection District says there were several calls to 911 of smoking coming from the building and that someone may have been trapped.

Firefighters put the fire out quickly.  It was limited to the bedroom of one unit where a man and woman were staying.

“The cause appears to be a lava lamp that was on the floor,” the fire district said in a news release posted on its Facebook page.

All 23 units in the building were evacuated.

Units dispatched to a commercial fire alarm at the “Bradford Court Apartments formerly known as the Harbor House” Dispatch received several 911 calls of smoke showing and evacuation in process. First arriving units were advised of persons trapped. A second alarm was requested. Crews made a quick stop containing the fire to the bedroom of one unit. The cause appears to accidental originating on the floor. The unit was occupied by a male and female couple. The female tripped while escaping. She was evaluated on scene by Mercy EMS.
All 23 units in the building were evacuated. Crews were on the scene for one hour. All occupants were able to return to their units.
Western Taney County Fire and Branson Fire were on the second alarm and disregarded. Kimberling City Police Department assisted.
