ENON, Ark. – Firefighters in Northwest Arkansas are still watching the area where they extinguished a brush fire that grew to more than 200 acres this week.

Oak Grove’s Assistant Fire Chief Mike McKelvey says his department was called to the fire off 311 Highway near County Road 663 and Redwood on Wednesday afternoon.

He says crews stayed overnight to keep the fire from spreading, but by this (Thursday) morning, they were able to work with the Arkansas Forestry Department to completely contain the blaze.

According to the report, the fire started near Yocum Creek and traveled north. The Oak Grove Fire Department says that there were no injuries or losses of any structures.

McKelvey says people in the area may still see smoke for a while as the fire smolders inside the contained area.

Carroll County Judge Sam Barr has issued a burn ban, so no outside burning will be permitted until weather conditions improve.
