BRANSON, Mo. – Branson family bluegrass band, The Petersens, place fourth in an International Band Competition in Nashville, Tennessee.
A part of the 44th Annual Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America Bluegrass Music Awards, National Convention and Band Championship, The Petersens found themselves returning to compete at this event for the first time in a decade.
Band Marketing Director and Banjo Player Ellen Petersen shares when the family played in 2008, they walked away with 24th Place out of 25 bands in the championship. Peterson says while they had often talked about returning to compete over the years the timing had never been just right, until now:
Petersen goes on to share what it means for her family to return to Branson as an award winning band:
The competition took place at the Sheraton Music City Hotel from February 1st to 4th. The band features the talents of Ellen on the banjo, mother Karen on the bass, Sister Katie on the fiddle, Sister Julianna on the mandolin, Brother Matt on the guitar and the newest member of the band, Emmett Franz on the Dobro.
The Petersen Family Bluegrass Band can be found playing Tuesday’s, Thursday’s and Sunday’s at the Little Opry Theatre inside the Branson IMAX Entertainment Complex. Ellen says the family choose to change up their schedule for the 2018 season to give them more opportunities to travel and play at additional venues in and outside of Branson.
