EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. – The Turpentine Wildlife Refuge in Eureka Springs becomes the new home for a white tiger from Nebraska.
The 13-year-old female tiger Payson arrived at the park last week. She is from Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium.
Tanya Smith, president of the big cat refuge, says they are extremely excited to give this female cat a new home.
Payson made the 430-mile journey to Arkansas, and after a little hesitation, transferred from her travel crate into her double night house.
Smith says the tiger is now spending a few days in the night house area for observation but will be given access to a large grassy habitat she will call home soon.
Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge says it has been moving to foster better working relationships with zoos across the country in order to make sure big cats in captivity get the best possible care.
