NIXA, Mo. — Law enforcement officials in Christian County confirm a body has been recovered from a truck that plunged off a bridge into the James River Wednesday night.

The man was identified as 19-year-old Brett Keeling, of Clever, according to the Christian County Coroner.

Capt. Jeff Loften shared with our partners at KOLR10 News, divers with the Missouri Highway Patrol found the body late Thursday morning. The truck went off the road on Highway 14 near the Delaware Town access during a police chase, and landed in the river.

The Patrol estimates the distance from the bridge to the water is about 100 feet, and the depth of the water at that spot was 10 to 12 feet.

Christian County Sheriff Brad Cole says the chase began when a deputy tried to pull the truck over for speeding on highway 60 west of Billings. They were unsure if the driver was impaired, but today say there’s no indication of that.
