HUNTSVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson unveils a new statewide GIS Mapping system to officials in Madison County this week.
Hutchinson tells officials this new mapping system in the state will provide a valuable resource to residents as well as help officials in case of a major emergency.
Created by the Arkansas Geographic Information System, new map includes all 75 counties, with information on roads, and infrastructure.
The images on the map were taken from the air, captured digitally with latitude and longitude coordinates, and made into images for use in geographic imaging.
In addition to showing roads and buildings, the images are the foundation for maps that pinpoint the location of water, power and gas lines, and administrative boundaries such as school districts or city boundaries.
Hutchinson says the state is passing this information onto individual counties so that public safety officials can respond accurately to the most reliable data saving lives and property.
