HARRISON, Ark. – Several local volunteer fire departments receive National Park Service grants for needed equipment and personal protective gear.

The National Park Service’s Rural Fire Assistant Program awarded individual 5-thousand dollar grants to the Pindall, Gilbert, and St. Joe volunteer fire departments.

This is the same grant awarded to the Compton Volunteer Fire Department back in November.

The river’s deputy superintendent Laura Miller says the park service is well aware of the dedication of volunteer firefighters and recognizes the great working relationship between the fire department and the Buffalo National River Staff.

The National Park Service provides Rural Fire Assistance grants to neighboring community fire departments to enhance local wildfire protection, purchase equipment, and train volunteer firefighters.
