BRANSON, Mo. – Guests at the Stone Castle Inn on Green Mountain Drive in Branson were awakened by a firm alarm late Friday night after a large plastic trash can caught fire and smoke entered an enclosed stairwell.

Branson firefighters responded to the reported commercial structure fire at 11:30 p.m. and found smoke showing from the northwest corner of the building. Chief Ted Martin says fire doors contained the smoke at the vestibule, and protected the guests by keeping smoke out of the hallways.

Martin says a hotel employee used two portable fire extinguishers to help put out the fire, and there was no structural damage to the building. He says investigators were not able to determine the cause of the fire.

Police assisted at the scene as evacuated guests were brought back inside to the hotel’s restaurant after firefighters confirmed the fire was out. Martin says one guest was checked for possible smoke inhalation, but refused further care or transport.
