FLIPPIN, Ark. – The former Flippin Police Chief waives formal arraignment and pleads not guilty to his single count of felony theft of property on Thursday.

Judge John Putman accepted the plea for 38-year-old Ronald Dusty Smith from Flippin, who accused of misusing the city’s credit card.

According to the documents, the misuse of city money was first reported by the city’s Keeper of Records, the official bookkeeper for the city.

Further investigation by Arkansas State Police Special Agent Justin Norlin allegedly found that between December 2016 and October of this year, Smith misused approximately $8,147.00 of the city’s money to purchase personal items, not authorized by the City of Flippin.

Smith has hired Paul Bayless to represent him in court.

He is out of jail on a $5,000 bond and will reappear in the Madison County Court on February 14, 2018, for a pretrial hearing.
