The College of the Ozarks Bobcats picked up their fifth consecutive win and their 14th season victory on Wednesday evening, defeating NAIA DI Lyon College by a score of 83-65.
The Bobcats opened up the game by grabbing a 13-4 lead, and despite some attempts by Lyon to pull ahead, the Cats retained the lead throughout the remainder of the first half. At the half, the Bobcats led the Scots 40-27, having shot 58.3% from the field and posting four of 9 3-point shots. Sophomore forward Ethan Davidson led the Cats in the first half, tallying 12 points and grabbing five rebounds.
College of the Ozarks continued to increase their advantage in the second half, leading by as many as 22 points with just under 9 minutes to play, and finished the game with an 18 point victory. Senior Kiefer Starbird led the Cats’ scoring in the second half with 11 points, and freshman guard DeMon Hyler brought down 6 rebounds.
Davidson led all scorers with 21 points, adding 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks, while draining 3 treys. Starbird added another double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds—his fourth double up in as many games and his sixth since the New Year began. He also went 5-6 from the field and 7-7 at the free-throw line. Cameron Paschke posted 16 points alongside 4 assists. The Cats finished the game with an overall field goal percentage of 54.7% and hit 17 of 22 from the charity stripe.
The Bobcats, along with the Lady Cats, head to Espanola, New Mexico to play in the Northern New Mexico College Classic this weekend.
