BRANSON, Mo. – In 1961, Dick Hartley moved to Branson where he opened a small 1500 square foot space in downtown, fast forward 55 years and Dick’s 5 &10 is still thriving and in an even larger location.

As part of the celebration, Dick’s 5 & 10 owners Steve Hartley and Dave Montgomery were joined for the first time in their store by upstate New York Vidler’s 5 & 10 owner Don Vidler.

Making Branson his vacation destination this week, Vidler spent Wednesday morning, meeting with Hartley and Montgomery and learning the history of Dick’s 5 & 10:

Hartley says he believes Dick’s and Vidler’s are still around today, because they have stayed true to the traditions of the five and dime store:

Montgomery shares they are still recovering from their 50th Birthday extravaganza, so honor their 55th, they chose to have a small private celebration just for the staff.
